FRS was engaged to fire rate a 3 meter x 3 meter opening in a ground level floor slab at the new Yawa Aquatic Centre in Rosebud. The large size of this opening was already a challenge and this was added to with the client requiring the opening to be accessible in future; the opening provides lifting access into the basement plant room. This meant weight, strength and durability were all key requirements for our fire rated solution.
After consulting with our builder client Buxton Construction, we recommended and successfully installed a fire rated system featuring Hebel PowerFloor+. An ideal solution, these lightweight panels consist of 150mm steel reinforced aerated solid concrete floor panels that fit tightly together to create a fire rated system along with a solid under foot feel. They are able to span over 5 meters. Importantly for the client, any future requirement to lift and replace these panels when needing to access the basement plant room will be a relatively simple procedure due to the lightweight properties of the panels.
The FRS designed fire rated system comprised five individual 600mm wide fire rated power floor plus planks that were installed onto steel support angles which we fire protected with Promat fire board.
This complex penetration in a fire rated floor now has its required fire rating and the flexible usage requirements of the client. Great work by the solutions focused FRS team.
